Quantifying Edge Brightening and Current Mismatch Loss in Bifacial PV Systems
How does irradiance non-uniformity along a row impact row energy yield for 2P bifacial PV modules (fixed-tilt and single-axis tracked)? Should you be taking edge brightening into account in your performance models?
Here are key results from the analysis of 2P bifacial PV rows at the Technical University of Denmark in Roskilde using DUET software:
- Edge modules generate 2-4% more energy than central modules, in isolation
- Central irradiance approximation neglects 0.3% net gain due to edge brightening & current mismatch
- Full row modelling with current mismatch reduces modelling error by 0.3% (absolute)
